Frequently asked questions about Separation Anxiety

If you ever wonder about separation anxiety and have questions, I have compiled some of the most frequently asked ones:

I DON’T LIVE NEAR YOU. CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?

Yes! Separation Anxiety coaching is done remotely – there is no need for the coach to be physically present. The reason behind it is because when a trainer goes onto someone’s home he/she is adding stress to the dog with a new presence and that presence is now changing dog’s behavior so we will not be able to see what the dog really does during an absence. By using remote viewing, we can observe true behaviors without influencing the dog or causing added stress.

No matter where you are located, as long as we can communicate, I can see your dog’s behavior and the time zone differences are manageable, I can help you and your dog.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CURE MY DOG’S SEPARATION ANXIETY?

The million dollar question. There are various factors that will influence treatment: – The dog’s genetic makeup, learning history, etc. Each dog is an individual hence it will take different amounts of time depending on the individual. – Family commitment to the coaching sessions. It takes time, patience, there will be setbacks and accomplishments, and the process will be slow, so commitment and time for the sessions will make a difference. With that said, there isn’t a specific timeframe to cure separation anxiety but be prepared for working with your dog for months, not weeks. HOW DO I BOOK A PACKAGE? Before booking a package an INITIAL CONSULT needs to be completed so I can observe your dog and provide a recommendation. You can schedule an INITIAL CONSULT. Once I confirm that a Separation Anxiety program is the right fit for you, we will discuss the best program option.

IS MY PET TOO OLD TO HAVE HIS/HER BEHAVIOR CHANGED?

No. Separation Anxiety does not chose between older or younger dogs. If your dog has separation anxiety I can help.

HOW DOES COACHING THE HUMAN WORK?

For all programs you will have an initial assessment where we discuss how to start and walk through specific details of the program. Monday through Friday you will get personalized plans based on your feedback each day. We will have an online session per week to discuss progress, troubleshoot issues, and answer any questions you have. I will review your session videos as needed. In addition you will have access to unlimited text communication. Details on each program can be found on the services page.

WHAT IF I CANNOT AFFORD PRIVATE COACHING?

We understand that private coaching may end up being a big expense depending on the options chosen. With that in mind, we have solutions that will help you get started. Let’s discuss what your dog’s needs are first. Details of my programs can be found on the PROGRAMS DETAILS page.

DO I NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?

No. A laptop computer, a tablet, or a smartphone will work for the weekly video calls. Once you start sessions where you are walking out the door you will benefit from using a camera so you can observe what your dog is doing during your absence.

If you already have a camera great! If not there are some great inexpensive options including the Wyze Cam or Wyze Cam Pan.

I’M NOT SURE THIS IS THE TYPE OF COACHING I AM READY FOR. HOW CAN I FIND OUT? Let’s find out! Book your Separation Anxiety Initial Consultation.
